Hyundai developing new mini car, smaller than i10

hyundai-hed-5-concept-sketch-2.jpgHyundai Motor is reportedly developing a new minicar, that will compete against upcoming mini cars from worlds largest carmakers such as Toyota, Fiat and Volkswagen.

The unnamed mini car from Hyundai will be smaller in size than Santro or i10 models and would compete in 800 cc segment. New Hyundai micro car is expected to start rolling off assembly lines in next three or four years. It is being developed jointly by Hyundai engineers in Namyang (S. Korea) and Hyderabad (India) research centers.

Hyundai did not release any specifications on its new model, but did confirm that it will be built in India, where Hyundai produces the i10 and i20 models. The car will be both for the domestic and export markets.

New Hyundai mini will join a number of small cars that are about to be released by worlds largest automakers in the next two years. Joining the two-door Smart, will be Toyota iQ and Fiat Topolino. Other automakers that plan to unveil mini cars are Volkswagen, who plans to join the “mini car battle” with a new model, jointly developed by computer giant Apple, as well as Mazda, which will soon show a small concept car, that foretells future Mazda1 model.

Buyer Beware: Danny’s Family Carousel Car Wash

A Tale of Woe in One Act:

Last Saturday Teacherman and I ventured out into the hustle and bustle of downtown Phoenix. We had plans to drop off Teacherman’s Toyota Corolla for an oil change at Danny’s Family Carousel Car Wash for an oil change and wash, and then wait for the car by getting our coffee-fix on at Starbucks all the while noshing on some breakfast burritos. It was sunny, the air was hot and getting hotter by the minute. We dropped the car off, got our breakfast and Teacherman was called by Danny’s saying that he needed his transmission flushed and refilled. Teacherman agreed and we went about our business. We soon picked up the car and I headed home. Almost reaching our driveway, Teacherman called in frustrated panic and told me he was stuck in an intersection, his car no longer shifting into gear. I quickly turned around and we pushed his car into a nearby parking lot.

To make a long, painful and often times boring story short - as it involves a lot of sitting and waiting - we took the car to Toyota, where we discovered Danny’s had put in the wrong transmission fluid. We told Danny’s their mistake and they said it wasn’t their fault and told us to get a second opinion … even though the receipt shows the incorrect fluid was used verses the directions listed inside the engine that called for an alternate fuel. The wrong fluid would force us to purchase a new transmission. They still said it could be something else and refused to help. We spoke to several people there and were completely dismissed. Luckily, we were able to trade in the useless metal on wheels that Teacherman’s car had become but we wanted all in the Valley to be aware of Danny’s Family Carousel Car Wash located on Highland and 20th Street in Phoenix. A truly terrible and dishonorable business …

The Car Wash = The House of Horrors

About one year ago I took Lex with me to the car wash. It was one of those car washes that you ride through with your car as the brushes, sprays, soaps, and air blasts remove all of the grime from your vehicle. The adventurous boy in me loves riding through these and I thought Lex, at about 8 months of age might enjoy it too. I could not have been more wrong.

Lex was in his car seat in the middle of the backseat, as he should always be, when entered the house of horrors. I was half distracted by the spinning brushes and sprays coming at us that I did not immediately notice Lex’s obvious face of sheer terror. As the brushes and foam hit the car I looked to Lex to see if he was enjoying the experience. At that moment he started shreaking in terror. I tried to calm him down with my voice, trying to sell the whole thing is good fun, as I struggled out of my seat belt, got him out of his car seat, and pulled him into the front seat with me.

I felt terrible and foolish to have assumed he would enjoy such a potentially frightening experience. He called down pretty quickly after we got out. I was able to pull over at the neighboring Jack-in-the-Box and took him in for a change of scenery. We enjoyed some cheap fries together and then headed home to tell Momma the story of our unexpected adventure.

Now fast-forward 1 year, to last month. The car was VERY dirty and in need of a serious wash. In fact, it was so dirty that I felt I was violating my responsible fatherhood by allowing it to remain like that. You see, we have a two car garage that is somewhat toddler-proof and fairly clean, an so we often let Lex play int here and he frequently runs his hand along the side of the car as he strolls past it. Given the unknown, yet suspected, contaminants in the grime that was on the car, I felt it was time to take the responsible fatherhood initiative and get the car washed again (yes, after nearly 1 year). In fact, my wife was already urging me to do this too!

I hadn’t forgotten our previous car wash adventure; not at all. However, I didn’t think it was a concern seeing as how this daddy’s boy was a “big boy” now. What a mistake!

We went to a different car wash, but the inside pandemonium was quite similar. Again I was into the excitement of the moment and making certain that I was not pressing the breaks. Just as the brushes hit I looked to Lex int he rear-view mirror and then I spun around in the front seat immediately. Lex was literally shaking with fear. His little arms were half stretched-out, with his hands open, and he has shaking them. His face had the look of pure terror. It broke my heart in an instance and I tried to get him out as quickly as possible.

Once freed from his car seat I again pulled him up front with me and he clung to me like never before. He pushed his head in under my chin and into my neck with a full and constant force; as if he were trying to bury his head. He stayed like this all through the ordeal. As we rolled out of the newly discovered house of horrors and into the sunlight, I shifted the car and maneuvered to an open parking spot near the vacuum stations. All during this time Lex never loosened his grip or stopped pressing his head in to my neck and chest. You’d think it would be hard to drive like this, but his grip was so tight that I didn’t have to hold him and our car is an automatic.

All of my calming words, playing calming music, and tactile reassurement took about 5 minutes to have any effect on Lex. Slowly his feeling of terror faded away and again I took him to the nearest local establishment (grocery store) to help reset him for the journey home. He of course, for got about everything by the time the shopping and playing were through. I don’t think I will be taking him to the car wash for a long time. Or perhaps, I could take him and just dismount the car before it enters the house of horrors and pick it up at the end. If not, I think I need to find a different sort of car wash.

Small covered car trailers

Mother nature can be pretty harsh at times especially on our vehicles. I’ve been through many storms in my day including two hurricanes and I have seen how badly these storms can damage cars. Hail the size of golf balls can put dents in cars, and falling tree limbs can break windows in the blink of an eye. When using an auto shipping company it is nice to know that your car will be protected from the elements. National Transport has small covered car trailers that will protect your car while it is on the long journey from one place to another. National Transport is all about efficiency and they want the client to be satisfied with the service they have purchased. That is why they will use whatever means necessary to get your vehicle to you safely. Since we can never be sure when mother nature will strike with her fury, we can’t take chances when shipping our cars. So put your trust in National Transport because they put the safety of their client’s vehicles in the forefront of their services.

DJ Mobile might be the most obnoxious car stereo ever

djartcar.JPG

Living in a crowded urban neighborhood, I often see kids driving around in their mobile sound systems on wheels, setting off every car alarm on the block. That’s annoying enough, but at least I know that as painful as it is from the sidewalk, it’s infinitely worse for the clowns inside the vehicle.

Now however, Dutch artist Olaf Mooij has taken that token sense of justice, and flipped it around by building a car with the sound system on the outside. To be fair, his DJ Mobile is designed to be used as a driveable PA system, which you park, and then operate from a DJ platform while standing up through the open sunroof. Still, I’m sure if you cranked it up while cruising down the block you could break every window you passed.

Finding The Cheapest Car Insurance Quote

The cheapest car insurance is available online, but let me warn you, motorists need to beware of attention-grabbing headlines and prices that mask inadequate protection in car insurance policy. There are many car insurance quotes out there, and the internet is a good way to find the best discounts, and the cheapest car insurance quote as it allows a person to compare the car insurance quotes without the pressure of a salesman.

Sports cars and additional powerful cars are considered larger risks because they are the most prone to inexperienced drivers. While these types of insurance quotes are not a problem, it requires some work on the introductory insurance offer, and you should be aware of this. There are of course many web sites out there that allow a person to identify a provider who has an extensive corporate presence. But that doesn’t automatically mean that they will have the cheapest car insurance quote. It really depends a lot on the people behind the website.

So how do you manage to zero in on the instant online car insurance quotes of the top 50 car insurance companies? The answer is, a lot of surfing, and a lot of reading reviews. If when you finally chose a company, it is essential to ask your insurance company if your quote will automatically get reduced as your record improves, or if you don’t have any accidents. Most companies do this, and thus, a person can get the cheapest car insurance by staying with the same company for years and keeping a clean record. Trust me, it’s the best way to get cheap car insurance. And that’s advice that you can take to the bank.

It’s the 4th annual no crow car club bbq

Pink

Questions? heh

Here’s the first annual, second annual and third annual - whoa - apparently I never blogged the last two years events?  That’s not right.  I promise to scrap those soon and share.

You see - it’s a long history of Pa going to the St. Ignace car cruise with the guys.  Way back when, the first year, Dennis was going to have his Nova ready - or eat crow.

He’s been eating crow every year.  This happens in the form of great pranks and shenanigans. I really need to do just a no crow car club album.

Now THIS year - Dennis stated that he’d have his car ready or by golly, he’d wear pink pajamas.  The theme grows.  I went to Salvation Army yesterday and found a multitude of pink pajamas in many sizes for a buck a piece.  I even found a pair that should fit Dennis just fine.  It’ll be a fun evening.

I was supposed to have this bbq back in June - but life was a bit crazy, so we decided on now since everyone is home for the holiday weekend.  The only glitch was that both the little boys came down with very needy bugs this week - they seem to be better now tho - Brian’s fever broke about 4am.  heh.

So I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked - but when it’s a gathering of friends and family, that really doesn’t matter.

More later -

Dear Mr. Car in Front of Me,

If I could make one wish, I think it would be to make you and the other drivers like you go away. Having been in a few car accidents in my life I try very hard to abide by the two second rule. I give the car in front of me enough space so that if they randomly slam on their brakes I will not be meeting the back bumper of their car.

You apparently do not follow the same set of rules that I do. I know this because of the way you sped up as the two lane road became a one lane road. You sped up to what I now know to be the fastest you would drive within the next ten minutes of my time driving behind you. I watched you speed up, pass me and then subsequently cut me off all while slamming on your brakes and flipping me off because I almost ran into you. Of course I’m a mind reader and should have known you were going to do that.

First of all, speed limits are posted for a reason. While I think it may have more to do with people not going nuts and going 50 in an area where children are walking to school, I think it may also have something do with people going up to a certain speed to keep them lolly gagging. Therefore, I applaud you wanting to keep to a safe speed while you see school children around, I think you could have gone a little over 15. I watched you hit at least a speed of 35 right before you cut me off. Why on earth could you have not kept up with that? Was it because I made the “what are you doing” face when you cut me off? Were you trying to punish me?

Secondly, the issue with the turn signal. If you don’t use it, no one knows why you are randomly stopped in the middle of the road. Myself, and the 3 miles of backed up cars behind me had no idea at all why you suddenly stopped in the middle of the road. That is why we honked. Flipping us off as you turned was not helpful at all. Had you done some flipping as soon as you stopped, there would have been no need for the anger.

Thirdly, gawking at the teenage girls on their way to school is disgusting. That’s right, I saw you. I’m pretty sure I saw ear hair too, which just makes what you were doing wrong. Do you know that those girls were old enough to be your grandchildren? Now, I have no idea what you were saying to yourself in your car, but you were staring at the pretty blonde in the pink shirt. I saw you. (She was actually pretty fully clothed. A normal pink t-shirt, ok a little on the tight side, jeans, also on the tight side, but not those skinny jeans, so in my world she was dressed conservatively.) So, my guess is that you are a very dirty old man.

From now on, if you see a red Dodge Neon with an angry red head driving it, perhaps it would best suit you to move over and let me pass you. My wrath will not be well contained if we ever meet again. I will not hesitate to call you a dirty old man next time. Asshat.

Much Thanks,

Sarah
