Finding an eBay Auto

If you are looking for a car, then you may want to consider looking on eBay. A lot of people do not even realize that eBay has vehicles to offer but they do in fact have a large and comprehensive selection of vehicles to choose from.

If you plan to buy an eBay auto there are a few things that you are going to want to be aware of however, so that the purchase can go as smoothly and easily as possible and you can have the greatest success of finding the perfect vehicle without problems.

Remember

First and foremost you want to remember when you are purchasing an eBay auto that you are shopping online and so you have to be cautious in ways that you would not have to be if you were purchasing a vehicle in person.

For instance, you are not able to physically check out the eBay auto before purchasing it, and so for this reason you are going to have to make sure that you read all the fine print in the ad for the vehicle and that you are aware of any damage that may be on the vehicle.

Remember that there are going to be scammers out there who are going to try and sell you a broken down vehicle and pretend that it is fine to purchase, so you really need to be careful of which sellers you deal with.

The best idea here is to take a bit of time and check out the seller that you are considering buying from before you go ahead and pay for any eBay auto. See how long they have been a seller on eBay, and they should have at least a couple of years behind them, so you know that they know what they are doing and that they have not just gotten into the whole thing.

Another thing to take into consideration when purchasing an eBay auto is price. You are going to want to figure out what the average cost is for the vehicle that you are considering buying, so that you know whether you are getting a deal or whether you are going to be paying more than you should be.

Buying a vehicle from eBay can very well be a great thing, but you are going to have to take the proper precautions and make sure that you know who you are dealing with and what the return or refund policies are before putting any money out.

It is a Great Time to Buy a Car

The Federal Reserve board decided to cut rates after all today. That means the prime rate is now a low 2%. Auto rates should be falling soon with the new, they’re already below 7% for a new car.

So you can get a good rate on an auto loan, why else is it a good time to buy a car?

  • Auto dealers are facing slumping sales. Analysts predict a million fewer new car sales this year.
  • Gas is expensive. You can reduce your commute costs by switching to a more fuel efficient vehicle.
  • The internet makes it easy. Compare cars online to find the best deal.
  • Cash strapped consumers may be extremely motivated sellers.
  • There are some great used car options. A lot of cool low-MPG cars have been on the market for a few years. The Toyota Prius and BMW Mini have both been sold in the US since 2001.
  • Your tax refund and economic stimulus rebate are coming in the mail soon and would make for a good downpayment.

If you are shopping for a car, here are some tips for saving money:

  • Research first. Spend some time reading online and comparing prices to narrow down your list of options. Do some test drives to see if you really like the choices.
  • Wheel and deal online. Most auto dealers have specialized internet sales departments that you can play against each other from the comfort of your computer. Keep negotiating until you get a great deal.
  • Buy used.  Unless you plan to keep the car for a long time, you can save a bundle by buying a car that has been gently used instead.
  • Wait until the last weekend of the month or the quarter if buying from a dealership. This is when car sales teams are racing to make their numbers.
  • Finance your purchase online. Online auto loans offer very low rates and fees. And the best part is that a dealership will often try to undercut the rates and give you a better deal.
  • Use a downpayment to lower your auto loan rate and save money on interest.

We’ve got more tips to help you save $3,000 on your car purchase online

The Thorr Electric Car by Evisol

Thorr Electric Car photoEvisol makes “integrated solutions” for electric and hybrid vehicles (including boats). Drivetrains, batteries, that kind of stuff. How better to demonstrate their skills than by making an electric car of their own? Meet the Thorr electric roadster, a proud relative of the classic Lotus Super 7 concept. Simplicity is the name of the game here. Low complexity, low weight. A car stripped of all the bells and whistles, except for the state of the art electric drivetrain. No ABS, power assisted braking, gearbox, power assisted steering, any form of sound absorption, not even a roof and a windshield (okay, that might be a bit overkill, but they’ll probably tweak it some mo…

What’s wrong with car pooling.

If you are a Cairo resident, I won’t have to tell you how the traffic has become the past couple of years. But , I’d like to ask you a question: Have you ever noticed the amount of cars with only the driver in it ??!!! I guess most of the cars in the streets carry only one passenger, the driver that is.

This fact drew my attention around a year ago, while I was reading ” Whatever happened to the Egyptians ” by Dr. Galal Amin ( the book is gr8 btw ).

I’m driven to think that this is one of the major causes of the lousy traffic we are having in our capital. We have poor, poor, poor & in-efficient public transportation; whether it was the underground, buses or taxis. So, families that can afford to buy cars for every member, will certainly do so without hesitation.
Doing the math ( just my own assumptions ), a single family could push around 3 cars in the streets each morning. Looking from the other side ( the destination side ), a working place with 100 employees could have 50 - 70 cars parking in the streets. ( At my department, we have a car for every single member)

I believe that such problem could be partially solved by changing our attitudes as regards transportation. I suggest car pooling.

I’ll take my department as an example. Instead of having, 10 cars awaiting in the parking lot; there could be only 7. That’s a 30% reduction in traffic.

What makes Egyptians not used to car pooling ?
( in my opinion )

1) We are not used to think as a community. We just tend to think of our own benefit ( ana w mn ba3dy el-toofan )
2) A lot of people tend to think that it’ll take more time and consume more fuel to drive 5 more minutes. But, if it was considered thoroughly; the traffic reduction will decrease time consumption, fuel consumption and pollution.
3) We are not used to share.
4) Everyone thinks he’s the most important one in the world, they can’t wait extra 5 minutes till their colleagues are free to go home.
5) WE LACK PUNCTUALITY.

that’s all for now.

Hey, ‘Grand Theft Auto IV’ is out

And I did a story on it:

Don’t make any plans to contact Issac Nixon, 19, on Tuesday.

The Shippensburg University freshman plans on spending most of the day camped in front of his PlayStation 3, playing “Grand Theft Auto IV.”

The video game, which debuts in stores Tuesday, is the latest sequel in a series that, since its inception, has sold more than 70 million copies worldwide. Pundits even expect a number of people to call in sick tomorrow so as to immerse themselves in the game as soon as possible.

That success has come with a big price tag — namely the storm of controversy and criticism that has surrounded the content of the games since the release of “GTA III” in 2001.

Though the story lines vary, the basic concept behind the series is similar: You play as an ambitious criminal who moves his way up the chain of command from lowly thug to big boss.

The game has won accolades for its emphasis on exploration and open-ended game play, but often success in the games mean engaging in a number of unsavory activities, including murder, assault, gambling and even prostitution.

In 2005, when hackers discovered an abandoned sex game buried in the code of “San Andreas,” an immediate firestorm ensued. Politicians, including Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, called for legislative action.

With Clinton gunning for the White House this year, many expect the new game to draw sharp reproach as well.

“Most video-game critics are lying in wait for this one to hit the stores,” said Dennis McCauley, who runs the Web site GamePolitics.com. “It’s the poster child for game violence. It’s raised the bar for political involvement with video games.”

Jeremy Dunham, games editorial manager at IGN.com, has played “GTA IV” and says it’s “no more violent than a movie with similar themes.”

“People should consume these things in the same way they do movies and music,” he said. “There’s really no difference.”

Marolyn Morford, a State College psychologist who has dealt with video game addiction and testified in 2006 before the state House about the effects of video-game violence, would strongly disagree with that statement.

The difference, Morford says, lies in the interaction.

“As electronic games become more immersible and more realistic in visual presentation, it can be more difficult for people who are vulnerable to this to be capable of distinguishing reality from the fantasy,” she said.

While Morford is quick to state that playing violent video games won’t ipso facto lead people to commit violent acts, she does argue that for children and adults who have difficulty with impulsivity and self-regulation, the game can encourage them to become more aggressive, making you snap at the police officer when you’re pulled over for speeding, for example.

“I do not believe that video games create sociopaths,” she said, “but they can encourage growth in that direction.”

And don’t kid yourself, Morford adds, in thinking that children won’t be able to get their hands on the game.

“As soon is something is out and available for kids in college, the 10-11 year olds are going to want it and they’re going to get it. They’re going to have access to it,” she said.

For their part, fans of the game seem well aware of the controversy but ultimately feel the game’s high level of craftsmanship and artistry mitigate some of the criticisms.

“While I believe much discretion should be used by those who purchase and play the game, especially parents of young children, I think informed consumers should act accordingly in order to enjoy their purchase,” said Rob Bender, 21, a Shippensburg student.

“I do believe it is a very controversial game series, but I look at it like a movie,” Nixon said. “Movies do the same thing, except video games put the player in control of everything.”

Why Modern Cars Are Brilliant

The Audi Q5.

Do you know someone who bangs on and on about how modern cars or rubbish? Or how about the bloke in the pub who claims that his old Triumph TR-7 is better than anything else on the road? It always interests me when this sort of argument crops up - not least because I think they are wrong but also because nostalgia has a place and you should be aware that is all it is.

Modern cars are wonderful, wonderful creations. They are, almost without a doubt, better than anything else we’ve produced historically. In every area I’m going to look at, you’ll see that not only should you be pleased with your modern car - whether it’s an Aston Martin or a Kia - and you should understand that it is a technological and engineering marvel.

Safety

In years gone by, a crash was bad news. Far worse news than these days, where you’re more likely to be crying over a scratched bumper than you are anything else. Back in 1970, 7,500 people were killed in road accidents. In the year 2000, there were less than 4,000 even though there was more than double the amount of cars on the road.

Granted, anyone killed on HM’s highways is a tragedy, but these days cars are without a doubt much, much safer than previously. Air bags, Safety cells, crumpling single-use bumpers and 3 point safety belts all work hard to help us reach B just the same way as we left A.

Technology
Driving has been made much easier due to a number of new technologies that have been pushed to the forefront of design. These include ABS and traction control - two race-style developments that mean handling a car is easier. It can also help you out in a tight spot and stop an accident happening in the first place.

Modern technologies have also made it possible to set up a car to have impressive dynamics at any given speed - such developments include the F1-inspired paddle shift and double clutch technology to handle lots of power.

Materials

The horrendous ‘plastic dash’ not withstanding in very cheap small cars, generally speaking the materials used these days are more sophisticated. Whether this is the use of lightweight aluminium sub-frames carbon fibre roofs it is clear that modern advances have helped to make a modern vehicle lighter, better handling and prettier.

Exterior
Modern cars aren’t just designed by an engineer - a marketing team also designs them. Whilst for some that might sound like a nightmare, for others it is very clearly a dream come true. The reason for this is that there is literally something out there for everyone - whatever your need, style or choice. Granted there are a lot of bland cars out there, but with everything from the Aston Martin DBS to the Fiat 500 you are certainly spoilt for choice.

A complaint of a certain generation tends to be that new cars have no ’soul’. Well, whilst your retro-mobile is cool, my BMW M3 offers absolutely wild performance and style in the same package. It also stops me from looking like I’ve reached a mid-life crisis early.

Comfort/Entertainment
These days we’re doing more and more miles in our cars - something which manufacturers are keenly aware of. So much so that many motors are now set up to be an almost home from home, with DVD players, cooled gloveboxes for food, cubbyholes for toys and above all space. None of this would be available in an unmolested oldsmobile and you won’t enjoy the bumpy or too-hard ride in one of those either.

Power/Efficiency
In years gone by, cars were lighter. They were far less safe as well, as we also covered. These days, cars are heavier, but they get much bigger engines. This is fine though, because they emit far fewer gasses on the whole to pollute the planet with. Not only that, but diesels are far more planet-friendly and a lot less noisy too.

Conclusion
It’s clear from the points above that you’ll find a lot more joy out of investing in a modern motor than a true ‘oldie’, even if it’s what you’d call a modern classic. With those in mind, here’s a list of the modern cars that I think we should salute as some of the best of their type:
Ferrari F430, Porsche Boxster, BMW 3-series (saloon), Fiat 500, Lotus Elise, Mazda RX-8, VW Golf.

I’ll look at some of the above in further detail in the near future to let you know just why they are so good.

Sitting in the car on a windy day…with a bullet in your head

The day couldn’t be any prettier. The sun is shining. The wind is blowing. It’s 75 degrees out in Overland Park, Kansas. What could be wrong with this picture?

These are perfect ingredients to get a bullet in your head while sitting in the parking lot of the Metcalf South shopping center. The cops showed up because someone reported shots being fired in the parking lot. They found a guy in the car bleeding from the head. They recovered a weapon and are trying to decipher whether or not this was self-inflicted or someone else put a cap in this dude.

His wife was shopping on the inside.

Who still shops at this “mall”? Metcalf South is the poor man’s mall out in Johnson County. They have called it a “shopping center” to drop it from the levels of their other malls. I’m surprised the place is still open. The kudos should go to the county residents for not allowing the shopping center to become another Indian Springs, Bannister, or Blue Ridge mall.
