96 3cyl engine that had Auto trans into 95 that has 5-speed

Well, I’m quite pleased with the way things turned out today. Not only was it a beautiful day for 4th of July celebrations, but also for dropping 3 cylinders in Metros! Things went smoothly and she fired up instantly with spot on factory timing of 5 BTDC. It purrs like a kitten, but is a little bit loud because of the rusted out catalytic converter pipe. The erratic idle it had before is gone, as is the check engine light (code 51). That is because I spent a good portion of the day cleaning out carbon deposits from the EGR passages in the intake and the EGR valve itself. For the intake manifold, I took a small drift punch and tapped out the little welch plug at it’s very rear. I did this by inserting the drift punch down #2 intake runner and lightly drove the plug out from the inside. Once that was removed, I was able to gain access to an unreachable section the the EGR passage. I just worked with all the basic tools one would think of till it was clear, namely, screwdrivers, awls, coat hangers, and my personal favorite…a DeWalt drill with an old length of battery cable stripped of it’s insulation.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
