Had your car serviced in Palestine?
Well then, if you are an Israeli that will mean three years in jail for you. Seriously. I am not making this up.
The Israeli Parliament has passed a law which will, and I quote (from haaretz.com) give ‘police officers (the power) to confiscate any vehicle in violation of (the law), as well as the vehicle license from its owner, and the vehicle that towed it to the Palestinian territories’. I mean, I know this is really not newsworthy, but petty little things like this do make me sit up and think ‘hang on, should we be giving Israel as much support as we do?’. I can’t see any purpose in this law, except to deprive Palestinian mechanics of a way to make a living. And what do we think these mechanics will do, now they have lost a major source of income? Hardly going to foster a spirit of friendship, is it?
I am not saying the PA are not just as bad, but I expect more from a country that claims to be a western liberal democracy. It is just petty behaviour, and Israel really needs to sort itself out.
